Training outline

Get hands-on WSO2 Identity Server experience in 2 days!

The WSO2 Identity Server adds a security layer to your existing IT infrastructure, while making your business processes run smoothly. Combine safety with usability and feel free to connect to new applications whenever it’s needed. In the meantime, the WSO2 Identity Server will guard your data flows so that only the right people gain access to the right systems. This makes you a fast, flexible and trustworthy partner that’s prepared for anything, every day

In this online training for the WSO2 Identity Server 6.1.0 we will focus on the main functionality of the Identity Server in three aspects:

  • Getting Started and Resident IPD configuration
  • 2nd User store, User Account Workflow, SSO, SCIM
  • Federated Authentication, Multi Factor Authenticators

We will discuss the high-level flow of the Identity Server when it is used and explain the individual components. You will get hands on experience with the Identity Server and will learn how to configure it, including adding federated authenticators to it.

Content

It’s a combination of theory and explanation and hands-on experience with a number of labs as homework. At the end of the training an exam can be taken.

Audience and prior knowledge

The audience for this training are people with an interest in Identity and Access Management and (preferably) some knowledge of security related technologies / concepts / standards like IDP, SSO and Federated Authentication. Contact us if you have any questions.

Target

After the training you will have knowledge of WSO2 Identity Server and hands-on experience configuring the product, e.g. the resident IDP, additional user stores, simple SSO and federated authentication.

Material

We will run this training on our Yenlo training platform and will provide you all necessary virtual servers running on Amazon (AWS) you need to follow this online training. We work with a graphical desktop to the AWS instances.

Labs are available via our Training Confluence platform from training start until training end. You will not receive any printed material. After the training you will also receive instructions on how to set up and environment to continue working with the WSO2 Identity Server.

All provided material is Copyright © Protected by Yenlo and may not be published and/or reproduced.

Prerequisites

To make a connection certain ports should be open(ed). We would suggest not to use a VPN connection if possible because of security rules. If your machine defaults to a VPN connection if not connected to the company network, switch to your regular connection that you use at home.

You need to supply the IP address that is used to access the environment in order to be able to connect to the instances. For the training materials we will give access using an account linked to your email address.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the training take place?

The training can take place at Yenlo’s headquarters in Schiphol-Rijk (Amsterdam) or on site at a client when there is a large enough group of people.

How long is the training?

The regular training (classroom) ranges from one day to multiple days, depending on the product and type of training (e.g., fundamentals / advanced). This training is a half day

Can I have customized training?

Custom training is possible, however this will be priced differently since we need to change the standard training material. Please contact us if you have questions about custom training.

What is the difference between online training and classroom training?

Classroom training is a whole day or multiple days with the trainer in a physical location. The trainer helps you directly when you have questions and of course explains the theory.
The online training is conducted completely online and is a slimmed down version of the regular training to make it manageable for people to do it on their own.

In an online training setting, you will have a morning session where we explain and discuss theory. The afternoon is spent on your own, in the virtual environment, with help from the trainer via Teams or other communication tools.

What kind of computer do I need for the training?

The computer (e.g., a PC) should be able to run NoMachine and be able to make a connection to our training environment. Several ports and internet access need to be open / available since everything is done in the cloud. The PC should ideally be running Windows.

Note: In case of an internet connection not being available, we could revert to a local installation. Meaning that you install the environment on your local pc and work from there. To be able to install the ‘no machine software’, as well as the port openings, you need to have administrative rights.

What kind of operating system will we be running in the training environment?

We will be running a CentOS 7 Linux environment running on an Amazon with two cores and eight gigabytes of memory. This should be enough for the training in general.

Do I need Linux knowledge and capabilities to work with the environment?

Linux and knowledge of Linux is handy. However, within the training, the number of specific Linux commands that we are going to use, will be limited to some very simple commands that are also familiar for Windows users. Like for instance, moving within a directory structure with CD, and starting the scripts from WSO2 using the command line tool.

Is the training difficult?

Whenever you are learning something new, it is going to be a challenge for your mind. With that, we mean that you are going to learn new concepts, new interfaces, new tools. This will make the training require energy, but the training will be manageable.

However, it is very common to be overloaded with information at the end of the day, that is why the training instances are often just shut down at night because of the need to rest for your mind, to be able to absorb the training material in a better way.

Will I be an expert after the training?

One of the most important things that we stress is that Rome was not built in one day. The training course that you will embark on will be the start of a journey as a developer or configurator of WSO2 products. Do not expect every aspect, every detail to be crystal clear from the first moment. It is very common to only have the pieces of the puzzle fall into place after some time, or some weeks. So, no. You will not be an instant expert.

How can I best prepare for a training like this?

The best way to prepare is to get a good night’s rest. Make sure that you read the prerequisites of the training material. And furthermore, have an open mind as to the things that you are about to learn.

Can I do the labs afterwards, again, or are they tied to the environment?

Most of the labs can be done on your own computer. During the training you will have the training material online (confluence environment), after the training the materials and training environment will not be available anymore.

Can I make a copy of the training labs and give them to my colleagues?

No, it is not allowed. The training material is the intellectual property of Yenlo / 42Crunch and may not be photocopied or duplicated in any form or shape.

What are the languages in which the training is available?

The training material, as well as the training, is given in English.
