Background

Lebara, a fast-growing telecommunications provider, operates in five countries and serves over 4.7 million active users. Known for its SIM-only contracts, affordable data plans, and customer-first approach, Lebara has established itself as a leading mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in Europe.

However, their in-house identity management system was not scalable and lacked the flexibility to support Lebara’s rapid expansion. As customer demand grew, so did the need for a robust, scalable, and future-ready identity management solution to accommodate millions of users. In 2023, after facing significant delays with a prior implementation partner, Lebara turned to Yenlo to finalize their migration to WSO2 Identity Server—a vital step to secure their growth trajectory and enhance operational efficiency.

The challenge

Lebara’s existing in-house identity management system had become a bottleneck, failing to meet the demands of a growing user base. While functional, the system’s limitations in handling large-scale operations and managing multiple identities became increasingly evident.

An earlier attempt to implement WSO2 Identity Server with a different vendor resulted in a two-year delay, incomplete setup, and instability. This delay not only stalled Lebara’s operational goals but also created additional challenges in maintaining user experience. With a growing customer base across multiple markets, it was imperative to resolve these issues quickly and efficiently.

Lebara needed a partner with the expertise and commitment to complete the project within an ambitious eight-week timeline while ensuring a seamless experience for its users.
